Port Angeles: Enrollment up unexpectedly, but not enough to reopen Monroe School

PORT ANGELES — School Board members say they are delighted to see enrollments increase at Port Angeles schools, but the increase does not call for Monroe Elementary School to reopen.

The board reviewed a Port Angeles School District enrollment report Monday night.

The report showed the district is experiencing enrollment growth at several levels, including kindergarten.

“It’s great, but it’s not a trend yet,” board member Jeff Hinds said. “We will have to wait and see.”

The October enrollment report also included September data to give the board a snapshot of how many children are attending Port Angeles schools.

Each October, district officials said, enrollment numbers tend to stabilize, as opposed to September when students are still enrolling.
