Sequim native off to Iraq for lengthy assignment

SEQUIM — Rick Larsen joined the Army Reserve six years ago with one goal in mind: He wanted to do reconnaissance.

He got his wish.

But a year of whirlwind change in the world’s political climate propelled the Sequim native and car salesman from a part-time gig with the armed services to a full-time deployment to central Iraq — starting tonight.

“I’m in reconnaissance; it’s a very important job, not something everyone can do,” said the 28-year-old married father of three, with a fourth on the way.

Sgt. Larsen said he can’t discuss the nature of his mission, but he knows he’ll be at the center of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
