Port Angeles: Peninsula College vice president named to head Centralia College

James M. Walton, Peninsula College’s work-force education vice president, was named president of Centralia College on Monday.

Walton, who has been at Peninsula College for 22 years, was appointed by Centralia trustees at a three-minute morning meeting.

The Port Angeles resident was selected from four finalists and becomes president July 1.

“I am obviously very excited about the opportunity, but it will be difficult to leave,” Walton, 55, said Monday evening.

Founded in 1925, Centralia is the oldest continuously operating two-year community college in the state. It has about 3,100 full- and part-time students and 160 employees.
