Clallam Conservation District’s offers fall natural landscaping course

SEQUIM — The deadline for registration in the Clallam Conservation District’s fall natural landscaping course is today.

The interactive course includes three Tuesday evening classes and three Saturday field trips.

The first class will be from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Dungeness River Audubon Center, 2151 West Hendrickson Road, Sequim.

A $25 registration fee will cover the cost of the book “Grow Your Own Native Landscape,” a binder of reference material and facility rental. For couples requesting one set of materials, the cost is $30.

Course participants will be taught how to analyze the unique ecological conditions of their properties and develop appropriate landscape designs.

The course focus is a naturalistic landscape style, with special emphasis on water conservation and minimal maintenance.

Course participants are coached through the steps necessary to prepare individualized plans that lead to landscapes that save time and money while also enhancing wildlife habitat and biodiversity.

The course is based on the basic permaculture principle of understanding and working with nature.

A separate half-day field workshop on landscaping with native plants is set for 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Dungeness Recreation Area. The first natural landscaping course field trip is the same as this workshop, so if registering for the course, there’s no need to register for the separate workshop. The workshop is free but pre-registration is required because of space limitations.

Registration for all Clallam Conservation District educational events is now available online at clallam cd.org/workshops.

For more information, call the Clallam Conservation District at 360-775- 3747, ext. 5, or email info@clallamcd.org.
