Port Townsend 5, Bremerton 1

PORT TOWNSEND — Kyle Kelly pitched a complete game as the 1A Redskins end their Olympic League season on a high note while at the same time knocking the Knights out of the 3A playoffs.

Kelly scattered five hits and allowed just one run in seven innings.

He struck out five and made six put-outs in the game.

Daniel Charlton had three RBIs in the game while Devon Courtney went 3 for 4 and scored two runs.

Cody Russell was 2 for 3 at bat with two RBIs.

The Redskins end their season on a winning note while winning four games for the season.

They had a very competitive season, playing seven games that were decided by two runs or less, and giving themselves a real chance in the majority of the other games.

The pitching staff was led by Kelly and Russell, who both kept them in games all season long.

Offensively, the standouts were Charlton, Kelly, Courtney, Matt Cain and Sean Dwyer.

The Redskins played an up-tempo and aggressive brand of baseball this season: bunting, squeezing and stealing their way around the base paths.

“Look for us to be even more competitive next year,” coach Pat Kelly said.

“We will be returning all but one starter.”

PT looking for football coach

PORT TOWNSEND — Port Townsend is looking for a new head football coach after Tom Webster stepped down after leading the program for the past three years.

Webster stepped in to coach the program when there was a vacancy even though he also was coaching the boys basketball and baseball programs.

“We asked him to help us out and he did,” athletic director Patrick Kane said.

“It was asking too much for him to continue there. This is our magic year where we get a new head coach. Tom will still be on the coaching staff.”

Kane is expecting interviews to begin May 14.

The post could be difficult to fill because there is no teaching position to go with it.

Webster stepped down from coaching varsity baseball this year but he is still the head boys basketball coach.
