Sports: Pair leads strong contingent to subregional wrestling tourney

Big Cory Looney of Port Angeles High School and undefeated junior Keith Johnson of Port Townsend High School lead a strong group of Olympic Peninsula wrestlers who head into subregional competition starting today.

Looney leads the Port Angeles Roughriders at the Class 4A Narrows League 16-team tournament today and Saturday at Olympia High School. Action starts at 5 p.m. today and 10 a.m. Saturday.

The top eight competitors in each 22-man bracket advance to the regional championships next weekend, and the top four from regionals head to state the following weekend.
