SILVERDALE — North Olympic Peninsula high school football fans have a special treat this weekend.
The two area high schools still in the state playoffs both compete on the same field just a few hours apart Saturday.
Neah Bay and Sequim both play at Silverdale Stadium, 7070 Stampede Blvd. NW, at Olympic High School in Silverdale.
The Neah Bay Red Devils (10-0) take on Lake Quinault (7-2) in the first round of Class 1B state action, which is also the quarterfinals with the top eight B teams left.
Neah Bay plays at 2 p.m. while Sequim (10-1) battles No. 2-ranked Lynden (10-1) in the Class 2A quarterfinals at 6 p.m.
Winners of both games advance to the semifinals at the Tacoma Dome the following weekend while losers go home.
The Sequim Wolves have already made history by winning its first-ever state game last Saturday when they held off No. 10-ranked Burlington-Edison 34-32 at North Kitsap High School.
Now the Wolves can continue to rewrite the history books with a win against perennial state power Lynden, the defending state champion.
The Red Devils, meanwhile, will try to improve at last year’s finish where they lost in the quarterfinals.
Their opponent, Lake Quinault, made it to the semifinals in 2008 before losing. Both teams lost to eventual state runner-up Wishkah Valley.
The Red Devils had an easy time qualifying for the quarterfinals by blasting King’s Way Christian 50-0 last Saturday at Tumwater High School.
The game ended at halftime because of the mercy rule.
Neah Bay beat the Lake Quinault Elks 38-16 earlier in the season.
Ticket prices for both games are $8 for adults, and $6 for senior citizens and students.
