Punt, Pass and Kick winners advance

PORT ANGELES — Six area athletes are moving on to the Punt, Pass and Kick sectional competition after winning their age groups at Civic Field over the weekend.

The sectional will be held in Seattle on Oct. 19.

The following are advancing after winning their respective age groups Sunday:

■ Girls ages 6-7:Ella Garcelon, 48 feet.

■ Boys 6-7: Alex Angevine, 151-03.

■ Girls 8-9: Anna Petty, 91-08.

■ Boys 8-9: Zion Woodin, 139-10.

■ Boys 12-13: Hayden Woods, 277-05.

■ Boys 14-15: Riley Cowan, 355-06.

Lightning win 8-2

SEQUIM — The Storm King Lightning U-11 boys soccer team improved to 3-0 in North Puget Sound League play by beating Bellevue 8-2 at home Sunday.

The defense, led by goalkeeper Tyler Lawson, again led the charge. The Lightning are tied for the league lead in goals allowed with only four.

The defense also stepped up offensively. Center defender Brandon Wagner scored three goals. Wagner becomes the third Storm King player to record a hat trick in the last three games.

Matt Mangano scored two goals Sunday, while Ethan Knight and Israel Gonzalez each had a goal and an assist. Harrison Bell added a goal and Trenton Indelicato had an assist to round out the scoring.

The Lightening play at home game this Saturday at 1 p.m. at Albert Haller Field in Sequim.

Charlton playing at Whitman

WALLA WALLA — Former Port Townsend boys soccer standout Daniel Charlton made his college debut for Whitman College earlier this month in the Missionaries’ 6-0 win over crosstown rival Walla Walla University.

Charlton, a freshman who was twice earned All-Peninsula and Olympic League honors at Port Townsend, entered the game in the second half and played 22 minutes at midfield.

Whitman College is located in Walla Walla and plays in the NCAA Division III Northwest Conference.

PORT TOWNSEND — Jefferson County Parks and Recreation is now accepting Pee Wee and Junior basketball registrations.

Register and make payment at the Rec Center at 620 Tyler St. in Port Townsend; fill out the online form at www.countyrec.com; or print and mail or drop completed form with payment to 623 Sheridan Street, Port Townsend, WA 98368.

The registration deadline is Nov. 1.

The costs for each age group:

■ $55: Pre-K and kindergarten, in two separate divisions (co-ed), includes a custom cotton T-shirt.

■ $60: first and second grades, includes a custom T-shirt.

■ $75: third and fourth grades and fifth and sixth grades, includes a numbered reversible polyester jersey (those who have their jerseys from last year can deduct $15 for a program fee of $60).
