FORKS — The Forks boys and girls combined wrestling squads edged out Port Angeles to win their home duals tournament this weekend, with the Spartans girls sweeping all their matches against the Roughriders.
Forks beat Port Angeles 57-39. Earlier in the duals tournament, Forks beat Hoquiam 54-12 and North Beach 64-18 while Port Angeles beat Hoquiam 52-23 and North Beach 54-18.
The Forks and Port Angeles boys were pretty evenly matched. In the boys’ matches between the Spartans and Riders, Forks won five matches — Bryan Lucas, 120 pounds; Braden Camacho-Roldan, 126; Adrian Sanchez, 150; Jon Parker Jr., 175; and Kenneth Daman, 285. Meanwhile, Port Angeles also won five weights — Talan Newton, 132; John Grubbs, 138; Lukas Teague, 144, Cooper Nees, 157; and Oliver Martinez, 165.
Forks won two weights by forfeit, while Port Angeles also won two matches by forfeit. It came down to the girls, and the Spartans’ girls, who are having perhaps their best season ever, went 3-0 in their matches to claim the meet. Kinley Rondeau at 105 pounds, Peyton Johnson at 120 and Jade Blair at 125 all won with pins.
For Port Angeles, Gruggs, Teague and Nees all went 3-0 on the day, while Martinez went 2-0 with a forfeit.
For the Spartans, Camacho-Roldan, Sanchez and Parker all went 3-0, while Daman went 2-0.
EJ, Sequim at KLM
SILVERDALE — East Jefferson’s Manaseh Lanphear Ramirez took first place at 150 pounds in the Keigen Langholff Memorial wrestling tournament at Central Kitsap High School this weekend.
Lanphear Ramirez went 4-0 on the day, winning three of his matches by pins, including the championship match, a first-round pin over Joaquin Santoy from 4A Davis High School. He won his semifinal with an 11-0 major decision.
The Rivals’ Finn Evans went 3-2 on the day at 144 pounds, while Ethan Perovich went 3-2 at 175, with one of his losses by medical forfeit.
Sequim had several wrestlers place. The Wolves’ Jaymes Vilona at 144 pounds had the top showing, making it to the championship match and finishing second. He went 3-1 on the day with two technical falls and a major decision.
James Mason finished third at 157 pounds, going 5-1 on the day. He ended up beating Wyatt Weatherman of Cashmere in the third-place match with an 11-6 decision. Weatherman had beaten Mason earlier in the day in the quarterfinals with a 17-1 technical fall
Ryan Spelker was fourth at 126 pounds, going 3-2, while Johnny Vilona was fourth at 132 pounds, going 2-2.

SILVERDALE — At the same venue at Central Kitsap, East Jefferson’s Savvy Grimm was third in the girls 110 class, going 3-1. Gracee Liske was fourth at 120, going 4-2 on the day, and Ursula Schmidt was fourth at 145 with two wins.
