Mateo Lucas got the Spartans off to a fast start with a pair of goals in the first half. Cruz Fernandez-Black and Abraham Montealegre, coming off his recent state championship in wrestling, also scored a goal.

Senior Juan Terrones is back in goal for the Spartans and earned the shutout. Margarito Gonzalez Black and Estevan Ramos each had assists.

Forks coach Ismael Ramos said the team avoided making silly mistakes that hurt the Spartans in a couple of their losses to Raymond and Port Angeles.

BAINBRIDGE — Port Angeles’ big three of Lynzee Reid, Heidi Leitz and Abby Kimball remained red-hot as the Roughriders got back on the winning track with a 14-0 shutout of Bainbridge in the team’s Olympic League opener.

Reid not only pitched a complete-game shutout, it was a no-hitter and nearly a perfect game. Her only blemish was a walk. She struck out six.

The Riders blew the game open in the third with nine runs as they banged out 15 total hits and made no errors to back up Reid’s no-hitter.

Reid also went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and two RBIs, while Leitz was 2-for-3 with two triples, three runs scored and two RBIs. Kimball was 2-for-2 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs.

All three players have been scorching hot at the beginning of the season. Kimball has nine straight hits over her past three games and has raised her batting average to .632.

Leitz has three home runs, two triples and two doubles in her past four games with a Ruthian OPS (on-base plus slugging) of 1.990. Reid has the no-hitter and is 8-for-12 in her past three games.

Lexie Smith was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs, while Mariah Traband was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Sophia Ritchie was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and a stolen base and Adison Richard had a hit, two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base.

Though the team has been hot at the plate, the Riders had a mixed weekend in nonleague games, going 1-1-1 in three games. Monday saw the return of the team’s pitching dominance.

Port Angeles (1-0, 4-1-1) has a huge game at home at Dry Creek Elementary at 4:15 p.m. Thursday, hosting first-place and unbeaten Olympic (2-0, 5-0).
