The Port Angeles gymnastics team qualified for state by placing third at regionals in Des Moines. The team is

GYMNASTICS: Port Angeles takes third at regionals, qualifies for state

DES MOINES — Port Angeles placed third at regionals to qualify for the state gymnastics tournament at the Tacoma Dome on Friday and Saturday.

The Roughriders tallied a score of 156.450 to edge Auburn Mountainview (155.525) for Class 2A/3A District 3’s third team state berth.

Columbia River won the region title Saturday with a score of 263.325, and Enumclaw was second with a 161.750.

Port Angeles had five gymnasts finish in the all-around top 25.

Cassii Middlestead had the Riders best all-around showing, place 13th with a score of 32.70. She had one top-10 event, the uneven bars, in which she earned a score of 8.1.

Maya Wharton was 15th all-around (32.35), highlighted by two top-10s: eighth in the vault (8.4) and 10th on the floor (9.2).

Lexi Hefton was 19th all-around (30.15), including a 7.350 in the uneven bars that was good for 14th place.

Sydney Miner was 21st all-around (29.9) with a 15th-place showing in the vault (8.25).

Nikaila Price took 24th all-around (29.55) for Port Angeles. Her score of 6.45 was 27th-best in the uneven bars.

Sequim had one gymnast competing at regional. Ennisa Albin qualified for state in the uneven bars by placing 30th with a score of 6.35.
