GIRLS WRESTLING: Trio of Forks, Port Angeles girls take first at Olympic tourney

BREMERTON — Forks’ Jade Blair and Peyton Johnson and Port Angeles’ Lilly Lancaster all won their weight classes at the Olympic Girls Wrestling Tournament held this weekend.

Forks had seven girls place at the tournament while Port Angeles had six. Two Port Angeles junior varsity boys — Jarret Thrall and Tre Hannan — won their weight classes in the boys JV division at the same tournament.

Blair won in the 116-124 class, taking first with three straight pins. Johnson won in the 124-131 class, winning with two pins and an injury default.

Viviana Luna at 114-117 took second with a pin and medical forfeit. Kinley Rondeau (98-105), Flora Horejsi (105-112), LaRayne Blair (126-129), Riley Tjepkema (143-157) all finished third in their weight classes.

Lancaster came in first in the 112-113 class with three straight pins. Teammates Saffron Tschida (124-131) and Bryelle Wopperer (143-157) both came in second in their weight classes, while Persephone Perry (116-124) came in third.

Hazel Loerch (131-134) and Margaret Conkle (103-110) both finished fourth.

In the boys’ JV division, Hannan took first at 173-176A and Thrall was first at 120-129.

Chase Puksta came in second at 143-148B and Jaron Tolliver was second in the 155-170 class. Irenio Riggle was third at 156-163 and Casper Erikson fourth at 151-153.

PA at Larry Brown

Port Angeles’ Talan Newton at 138 pounds had the best showing at the annual Larry Brown Invitational in Fife, going 3-3 on the day and finishing sixth. Nicholas Park at 165 pounds won a pair of matches and Thomas Woods at 138 pounds also won a pair of matches through pins, with one of his losses coming to Newton.

In the junior varsity division, Alex Burrow took first at 120 pounds, winning a pair of matches, while Lukas Teague was first at 144 pounds, also winning two.
