PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles’ Peter Butler and Gracie Long placed first at the final Olympic League regular season cross country meet of the season at Lincoln Park.
Long won the girls race with a time of 19 minutes, 22.07 seconds as the Roughriders claimed the top three finishes and won Wednesday’s meet over North Kitsap and Klahowya.
Butler finished the 5-kilometer course in 16:51.76 to win the boys race, coming in over 20 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Trent Mazelli of Klahowya.
The Eagles had the best team score, 33, to beat out Port Angeles (45) and North Kitsap (48).
Klahowya’s Brian Johnston finished third, followed by a pair of Riders, Alek Long (17:47.23) and Tristin Butler (17:53.97).
Crescent’s Martin Waldrip placed eighth with a time
of 18:23.05.
Port Angelees girls win big
With 19 points, the Port Angeles girls finished far ahead of North Kitsap (50 points) and Klahowya (55).
Gracie Long’s teammate Lael Butler was second with a time of 20:54.68 and Willow Suess was third with a 20:57.68.
Also finishing in the top 10 for the Riders were Madelyn Dougherty, sixth, and Annika Pederson, seventh.
Up next for both teams is the Olympic League championship meet at Cedars at Dungeness in Sequim next Thursday.
Sequim boys, girls win at North Mason
BELFAIR — The Sequim cross country team put in a commanding performance in a three-school meet with Bremerton and North Mason, led by first-place finishers Mikey Cobb and Waverly Shreffler.
Cobb won the boys race with a time of 18:34.25 as the Wolves claimed the top six places at Wednesday’s Olympic League meet.
Peter Ohnstad came in second (18:34.51), Jackson Oliver was third (18:34.72), Brendon Despain took fourth (18:34.92), Chris Jeffko was fifth (18:35.09) and C.J. Daniels finished sixth (18:35.23).
Christian Ash gave Sequim a seventh top-10 finish, coming in ninth with a time of 19:14.13.
The Wolves finished with 15 points. Bremerton was second with 59 points and North Mason had 67.
Shreffler took first in the girls race with a time of 22:23.62.
The Sequim girls had 24 points and North Mason had 34. Bremerton didn’t have any runners in the girls race.
Erin Vig (23:40.69) placed fourth for Sequim, Audrey Shingleton was fifth (23:57.71), Noelle Bittner was sixth (24:25.72), Emily Webb took eighth (24:45.54) and Alexis Cromer came in ninth (24:46.05).
Clarke, Trailer take first for Port Townsend
PORT TOWNSEND — Ryan Clarke and Hanna Trailer won their respective races for the Redhawks at Port Townsend Golf Club on Wednesday.
Clarke won the 3,250-meter boys race with a time of 9:56 as Port Townsend came out on top with 32 points, edging Olympic (36 points) and Kingston (58).
Brennan LaBrie finished fourth for the Redhawks (10:43), while Jack Kingsley (11:02), Mark Streett (11:06) and Sean Dwyer (11:07) finished eighth through 10th.
The Port Townsend girls (43 points) finished second to Kingston (27 points).
Trailer won with a time of 13:14, and teammate Ally Bradley was third with a time of 13:36.
