BREMERTON — The Sequim boys basketball team took over sole possession of second place in the Olympic League by beating Olympic 57-55 in overtime.
The Wolves overcame a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit in Friday’s game to force overtime.
Alex Barry hit a 3-pointer with under a minute to play and Anthony Pinza tied the game with six seconds left to even the score at 51-51 and send the game to an extra period.
Barry finished with 18 points and 16 rebounds for Sequim (8-2 in league, 10-5 overall), while Pinza scored 13 points.
Josh McConnaughey added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Wolves, who were playing without starter Rory Kallappa due to an injury suffered against Port Townsend on Wednesday.
Olympic (6-4, 8-6) falls into a four-way tie for third place with Port Angeles, Kingston and North Kitsap.
Sequim is off until it faces Kingston (6-4, 6-8) at home Friday night.
The Buccaneers dealt the Wolves on of their two league losses on the season with a 62-51 win last month.

ELMA — The Spartans went on the road and earned a big Evergreen 1A League win over the Eagles.
Forks ended a four-game losing streak and avenged its biggest loss of the season, an 84-40 loss at home last month.
“It was a huge win for us,” Spartans coach Rick Gooding said after Friday’s game.
“It’s a good way to start the second half of the season.
“Elma’s definitely one of the better teams in the league, so to go into their house and play hard, not give up and win was huge.”
Colton Raben scored a game-high 26 points for Forks, including four 3-pointers. He also went 5 for 5 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter.
Leo Gonzales returned to the Spartans’ lineup after missing a few games with injury to score 17 points.
“Obviously, having Leo back definitely helps,” Forks coach Rick Gooding said after Friday’s game.
“He opened up the middle; he hit a ton of jump shots right in the middle. They tired zoning up, and Leo stepped up and hit some shots.”
Andrew Armas was the only other Forks play to score with two points.
Gooding said that the other Spartans who played, Dimitri Sampson, Jeffrey Schumack, Ish Greene, Parker Browning and Ollie Sampson, made important contributions.
“It was a good team effort,” Gooding said.
“Even though they didn’t score, they did a lot of things defensively, rebounding.
“It was a team win.”
The full team effort extended to the bench, where assistant coach Mark Raben helped make some offensive changes when the Eagles used a 2-3 zone rather than their usual man-to-man defense.
Forks (2-6 in league, 4-10 overall) play at Rochester (1-5, 5-9) on Tuesday. The Spartans beat the Warriors 52-47 on Dec. 17.
Chance Bremer led Elma (5-2, 7-5) with 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Ray Stark added nine points.

BELFAIR — Port Angeles’ pressure defense forced 24 steals on the night as the Roughriders ran away from the Bulldogs.
“We did a great job with defensive pressure, anytime you can get that number of steals it’s good since it withholds shots from the other team,” Port Angeles coach Brent Stephens said.
The Riders gave themselves an early cushion, taking a 23-10 lead after the first period, 43-29 at halftime.
Derek Schumacher had 14 points, including four 3-point baskets.
He tied with Hunter Hathaway for team-high scoring honors. Hathaway hit 6 of 9 from the floor and added eight rebounds for Port Angeles.
Lambros Rogers had a solid, all-around performance, netting 10 points, swiping six steals and blocking three shots.
“His play was critical for us on the defensive end,” Stephens said.
Stephens said that 12 of 13 Riders who saw the floor, scored points.
“It was a very unselfish performance, we really spread the scoring around.”
Port Angeles hosts Kingston in an important Olympic League game on Tuesday.
The Riders (6-4, 8-6) are currently tied for third in the Olympic League with Kingston (6-4,6-8) and Olympic (6-4, 8-6), with North Kitsap (5-4, 8-5) lurking a half game out.
Port Angeles has split the season series against Olympic, beat North Kitsap at home and lost to Kingston on the road earlier in the year.
“[Kingston] is a critical game for us, lots of critical games left, there’s kind of a jumble in the middle and we need to win a bunch of games to try and get to be one of the teams that moves on,” Stephens said.
Four Olympic League teams will advance to districts at Pacific Lutheran University in mid-February.

NEAH BAY — The Red Devils won the Battle of the Bays convincingly thanks to a balanced offensive performance and 18 steals on defense.
Jongi Claplanhoo led the Red Devils with 14 points, Josiah Greene and Abraham Venske added 11 apiece and Kenrick Doherty Jr. chipped in with nine points and nine rebounds, five on the offensive glass.
Ezekial Greene had eight points and five steals for Neah Bay.
Kelly Gregory led all scorers on the night, netting 16 points for the Bruins.

KINGSTON — Port Townsend (2-8, 4-9) dropped a heartbreaker on the road against the Buccaneers.
Cole Rabedeaux hit the game-winning basket as time expired to cap a 16-3 fourth-quarter Kingston comeback.
Port Townsend held a 33-19 advantage heading into the final quarter.
Rabedeaux scored eight of his game-high 16 points in the final period.
Port Townsend was led by Paul Spaltenstein’s 11 points. Cody Russell added nine for the Redskins.
Port Townsend hosts Olympic on Tuesday.

BREMERTON — The Roughriders dropped their first Olympic League dual match in nearly three years on Thursday night.
Olympic won eight of the 14 contested matches.
Port Angeles grapplers won six weight classes, with Tyler Gale, Ozzy Swagerty and Kyle La Fritz picking up pins at 113 pounds, 126 and 220 pounds, respectively.
Other Riders winners included Ben Basden, a 9-2 winner at 106: Matt Robbins, a 7-6 winner at 182; and Roberto Coronel, a 7-6 winner at 285.

POULSBO — Sequim dropped an Olympic League swim meet to the Buccaneers but picked up a district-qualifying time from Eric Prosser in the 100-meter freestyle in 56.72.
Prosser also bettered his 200 individual medley time, coming closer to a state qualifying mark.
Patrick McCrorie won the 1-meter diving event for the Wolves.
“McCroie dominated the field today in diving,” Sequim coach Linda Moats said.
“He has such grace and flexibility that his dives seem effortless.”
