BOYS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Crescent sweeps a pair

Forks scores 90 in victory

JOYCE — The Crescent boys basketball team beat Thorp 53-27 and Concrete 53-40 in a pair of victories at a home round-robin Saturday, improving its record to 5-1 on the season.

The Loggers had balanced scoring in the opening game against Thorp with three players in double figures.

“We were able to play some different combinations against a relatively inexperienced team,” said coach Chris Ferrier. “Thorp is only in their second year since the early 2000s of having a team and we really did a good job of matching up and making it a good game for both teams.”

Conner Bauers and Lukas Love led the Loggers with 11 points each, while freshman John Lium had 10, all in the second half. Love also had 10 rebounds.

Against Concrete, the Loggers had double-digit scoring in every quarter.

“We were able to come out and deliver a knockout punch in the first six minutes of the game, defensively just locking the Lions up and playing with some fire,” Ferrier said.

“The third quarter was getting away from us and Mikah Love and Levi Bourm hit big threes against Concrete’s zone and we were able to get to a 19-point lead to end the third,” Ferrier said.

Mikah Love finished with 10 points, while Lukas Love had 16 points, 13 rebounds and four steals. Bauers pulled down 12 rebounds as a 5-foot-8 guard and Dom Sprague had six assists.

Forks 90, South Bend 19

FORKS — Forks split a pair of games this weekend, losing 67-53 to 1A Elma on Saturday and crushing South Bend 90-19 on Friday in a nonleague game.

The Spartans were led by Aidan Salazar, who hit three 3-pointers and scored 19 points. Brody Lausche had 10 points and seven rebounds while Kyle Lohrengel had six points, seven rebounds and four assists.

“The guys played hard this game against an Elma team that returns most of its players from its state team last year. Every time Elma went on a little run, the boys fought right back into it,” said coach Keith Weekes.

“This was a game the final score was not indicative of how well and how hard the team played. Unfortunately for us we had too many self-inflicted errors. Even with the loss, we were proud of the way the boys played, against a team they lost to by almost 50 a year ago. We are on the right track, we just need to keep climbing,” Weekes said.

Against South Bend, Salazar went off for 31 points and six steals, while Lausche had 12 points and 14 rebounds. Lohrengel scored 11, while Titus Rowley had 10 points and 14 rebounds, and Dylan Micheau nine points and nine steals. The Spartans finished with 29 steals.
