BMX: Port Angeles’ Elofson-Cross qualifies for second UCI World Championship event

LEXINGTON, Va. — Port Angeles’ 11-year-old Teyah Elofson-Cross traveled across the country this past weekend to qualify for the UCI World BMX Championship in May.

Elofson-Cross raced at the Blue Ridge National in world qualifiers. On Friday, she placed third out of 20 girls in the 24-inch challenger class to qualify for worlds. She had already qualified in January at a race in Phoenix for worlds in the 20-inch class.

On Saturday, she placed third out of 23 girls in the 11-12 cruiser category and sixth out of 18 girls in the 11-year-old expert class. She placed fourth out of 21 girls in the 11-12 cruiser and third out of 15 in the 11 expert classes on Sunday.

She qualified for two kinds of BMX bikes at the world championship, along with fellow Port Angeles resident Kylin Weitz.

The UCI World BMX Championships will be held in Rock Hill, S.C.
