PORT ANGELES — Strong at the plate, even stronger in the pitching circle.

Port Angeles pitcher Nizhoni Wheeler tossed a perfect game, striking out 10 batters, and the first-place Roughriders pounded 15 hits, including three home runs, in a 10-0 shutout of second-place Olympic.

“Nizhoni Wheeler threw a perfect game and got lots of run support from her teammates Natalie Steinman, Lauren Lunt and Nikaila Price who hit towering home runs over the fence,” coach Randy Steinman said.

Lunt, Sierra Robinson and Kylee Reid all had three hits for Port Angeles, while Brennan Gray and Natalie Steinman each notched two hits.

Robinson scored three runs and stole two bases.

“We played well today,” coach Mark Thompson said of Friday’s game.

Quilcene took advantage of four first-inning errors by the Hawks to open up a 6-0 lead.

Madison Coffee hit a grand slam, Erin Macedo doubled and scored on an Alison Jones sacrifice and Abby Weller also had an RBI single for the Rangers (4-0, 6-0).

Quilcene’s JV beat the Hawks 5-3 with No. 3 pitcher Katie Bailey picking up the win.

“This is the second varsity opponent our young second and third-string players have beaten this year [they beat Port Townsend 13-0 last week],” Thompson said. “It makes me optimistic this incredible five-year run can continue after this year.”
