ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Tyler Hunter, Port Angeles boys basketball

The Port Angeles boys basketball team is off to a 2-0 start and averaging 89.5 points a game heading into Olympic 2A League action this week.

Tyler Hunter has been a big part of that fast start, earning our first Athlete of the Week selection for winter sports. He had a nice opening game, scoring 16 points against East Jefferson last week.

This weekend, he had a monster game, scoring 25 points, 19 of them in the first half, and pulling down 18 rebounds to go with four assists and four steals. Many of those rebounds were on the offensive boards.

Hunter didn’t just board, either. The highlight of his game may have been when the 6-foot-7 forward went coast-to-coast through several Foster defenders for a layup.

Hunter’s production, along with Isaiah Shamp’s 28 points, the Roughriders scored 92 points against Foster.

Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Swain’s General Store in Port Angeles.
