Port Angeles’ Ava-Anne Sheahan had a spectacular 2A state tournament this weekend, helping to lead the Roughriders to a fourth-place finish at state.
Sheahan, who is known as a vacuum cleaner out in right field with her outstanding range and glove, muscled up at the plate in Selah in back-to-back games.
In the consolation semifinals Saturday, Sheahan belted two home runs, including a grand slam, and drove in all six of the Riders’ runs in a 6-2 victory over Aberdeen to put Port Angeles in the third-place game. Sheahan hit two home runs in the contest, the first a two-run shot.
In a wild third-place game against North Kitsap, Sheahan hit another grand slam. The Riders ended up losing 18-11, but Sheahan contributed three home runs and 10 RBIs in two games.
Sheahan and virtually the entire Riders team will be back next year, looking to improve on Port Angeles’ finish at state as only two seniors graduate from this year’s team.
