West End Thunder drags this weekend in Forks

Cameron Buzzell hosts free youth football camp

NEAH BAY — Former Neah Bay state football champion and Stanford football walk-on Cameron Buzzell will host a free football camp for Little League-age players Saturday and Sunday.

The camp will run from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. both days at the Neah Bay High School football field.

Players should wear athletic clothing, cleats and bring water.

In-person registration will be available at 2:30 p.m.

West End Thunder

FORKS — The first West End Thunder drag races of the season are today and Sunday at the Forks Airport

Entrance fees are $10 for general admission, free for ages 12 and younger.

Buy-ins will be $20 this weekend with no buy backs in order to finish races in a timely manner.

West End Thunder’s contract with the Federal Aviation Administration and city of Forks require all vehicles and people to be off airport property by 7 p.m. on race days.

Camping is $10 for the weekend.

Gates open at 8:30 a.m. each day.

West End Thunder also will host its annual Hot Thunder Nights car show and shine in downtown Forks from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday.

Any and all vehicles are welcome — cars, trucks, big rigs and motorcycles

United Way Kickoff tix

SEQUIM — A Seahawks Game Day Watch Party will serve as the kickoff event for Celebrate United, the 2023 United Way of Clallam County fundraising campaign.

The event will be held at The Cedars at Dungeness Golf Course, 1965 Woodcock Road, Sept. 17 — the date the Seahawks play a 10 a.m. road game against the Detroit Lions.

Zechariah Valette, a musician known for playing outside of Seahawks games, will provide piano and drums entertainment, plus a raffle, yard games, golf games and a catered lunch.

Raffle items include a Harbinger Wingery wine basket, a half-day whale watching tour for two out of Port Angeles, Seahawks tickets and a Ryan Donato-autographed authentic Seattle Kraken home jersey.

Lunch will be served and entertainment will begin following the game at 1 p.m.

Tickets are $80 per person, $150 per couple.

Tables of eight are available for $550.

WCL MVP/Pitcher of Year

The West Coast League announced its selections for Most Valuable Player and Pitcher of the Year.

This year’s MVP is Yakima Valley Pippins first baseman Jace Phelan. The rising junior from Gonzaga led the League with 50 RBI and 8 home runs.

Phelan was also the distance king, hitting the two longest home runs in the League this summer, according to TrackMan.

The WCL’s Pitcher of the Year is Edmonton hurler Halen Knoll. An Edmonton native, Knoll finishing among the League’s top five in a number of key categories, including ERA (2.20), strikeouts (52) and wins (5). After pitching for the University of Mary as a junior last spring, Knoll is set to join Edmonton Collegiate during the 2023-2024 school season.
