AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Wilder Baseball hosting golf benefit April 29

PORT ANGELES — The Wilder Baseball Club four-person golf fundraiser will be held at 10 a.m. April 29 at Peninsula Golf Course.
Cost is $110 per person or $440 per team. Registration ends with the first 144 players.
There will be Callaway and 1st Flight divisions.
Other contests will include a long drive competition on the course’s simulator, chipping and split the pot competitions and a hit-the-cone fungo skill contests and putting for a bottle of wine from Harbinger Winery.
There will be a raffle, and golfers can win a new car from Wilder Auto in Port Angeles if they can make a hole-in-one.
Tee or hole sponsorships up to $1,000 are available. This includes a tee or hole sponsorship and a four-person team. Sponsors can have their logos on a tee box or hole.

Kirby records ace
SEQUIM — Sequim’s Jessica Kirby notched her first hole-in-one while playing The Cedars at Dungeness on March 31.
Kirby aced the No. 4 hole from 122 yards out using a TaylorMade TP5X and her 7-iron.
The shot was witnessed by Rudy Whitehead of Forks.
Kirby finished her round with an even-par 37 on the front nine.
Cedars ladies play
SEQUIM — The Cedars at Dungeness 18-hole Golf Group returned to weekly Tuesday morning rounds last month. The group played its second Monthly Medal round of the season this week.
Marine Hirschfeld enjoyed a solid round, winning the gross division with an 87 and a low number of putts (28). Hirschfeld hit it closest to the pin (4 feet, 3 inches) on the fourth hole and drained the subsequent birdie putt.
Bobbie Piety claimed the net division with a round of 74 and had the second-fewest putts (28). Wanda Synnestvedt, Kathy Langston and Anne Rosencrantz all tied with 76s.
Lori Wyngaert earned closest to the pin on No. 17, hitting it to within 4 feet.
The group welcomes new players.

Ride the Hurricane
PORT ANGELES — Registration is now open for the Aug. 6 Ride the Hurricane event.
Early registration costs $70. After June 1, any remaining slots or registrations from the waitlist will be $80. The National Park Service restricts the number of cyclists in Olympic National Park at once, so space is limited.
Ride the Hurricane is a demanding hill climb with an elevation profile designed to challenge human conditioning and endurance. The climb begins at the edge of Port Angeles Harbor with a leg-burning 18-mile, 5,000-foot-high climb to the summit of Hurricane Ridge.
There will be frequent aid stations along the way help to fuel the climb. The ride back down ends where it started — at the Port Angeles City Pier. After the ride, people can join The Party on the Pier, with a taco bar, local craft beer from Barhop Brewery and other refreshments.
