AREA SPORTS BRIEFS: Joyce boy qualifies for national motocross race

JOYCE — Nine-year-old Skagit Williams of Joyce finished third overall in the 50CC limited category at the Washougal Northwest Regional motocross qualifier Saturday.

With his finish, he qualified for the Monster Energy Amateur National Motocross Championship, which will be held Aug. 1-6 at the Loretta Lynn Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tenn.

Williams’ racing coach is Jake Anstett, a professional hillclimb rider based in Port Angeles.

Port Townsend sets screening

PORT TOWNSEND — A June 12 Port Townsend screening at the Rose Theatre has been added for “The Race to Alaska” documentary.

The documentary tells the story of the Race to Alaska, the wildly challenging race to get from Port Townsend to Ketchikan using only wind or human power.

The film is directed by Seattle-raised Zach Carver and explores the extreme and impressive individuals who accepted this utterly unique challenge with humor and jaw-dropping camera footage.
