Avalanche Black finish second in Seattle tourney
SEATTLE — The Olympic Avalanche Black 8th-grade girls, a select feeder basketball team of eight girls from Port Angeles, competed in the Seattle Youth Basketball tournament last weekend in its first tourney of the season.
The Avalanche Black went 3-1, losing only to eventual tournament champion EBC Blue. They defeated 8th-grade select teams from Seattle and Auburn.
In the Avalanche Black’s first game against Swish, they won 43 to 19. Emilia Long had 13 points, while Jaida Wood had eight points and eight rebounds. In the second game against the NW All-Stars, the Avalanche Black won again 62 to 12, with Hannah Reetz scoring 19 points, Long scoring 12 and Camille Stensgard adding 11 points with eight steals. Wood and Maddie Cooke each added 11 rebounds.
The Avalanche Black were beaten by EBC 32-13, but came back with a 38-27 win over Swish. Reetz scored 18 points, while Wood had 13 rebounds and Myra Walker 10 rebounds.
Gymnastics classes
PORT ANGELES — Klahhane Gymnastics will add two new classes to its schedule in November.
Starting Nov. 1, a Level 1 class from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays will be held. This class is for beginning students in Grades 1 through 5.
A new Kinder-Gym class for Kindergarten students will be added from 4:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. Mondays starting on Nov. 7.
This classes replaces the Monday Pre-Gym class which has been discontinued. There is also a change of time for the Pre-K gymnastics class on Mondays. As of Nov. 7 that class will meet from 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.

Registration is in-person at the gym with payment by cash or check required to reserve class space.

Spooky runs on tap
GARDINER — The second annual “Spooktacular” 5K and 1-mile run is to glow in the dark at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Troll Haven on Bandy Farms, 950 Gardiner Beach Road.
The event is sponsored by Friends of Jefferson County Parks and Recreation.
Race day registration starts at 4 p.m. Registration also can be done online at jeffcofriends.com.
The race is preceded by a costume contest at 6 p.m.
Runners are encouraged to wear glow lights, bring flash lights or a headlamp.
Cost is $15 for the 1-mile and $25 for the 5K.
Bandy Farms also will have a haunted house in their castle and other events taking place on race-day.

Hoops refs to meet Sunday
PORT ANGELES — The North Olympic Basketball Officials Association is looking for junior high and high school basketball officials.
The association will meet at the Vern Burton Center, 308 E. Fourth St., on Sunday.
New officials will meet at 4:30 p.m. and veteran officials will meet at 5 p.m.
No experience is needed as training will be provided.
The association covers boys and girls games around the North Olympic Peninsula.
Officials receive a game fee plus travel money.
