Woman faces charges in alleged Sequim robbery

PORT ANGELES — A Sequim woman connected to an alleged armed robbery at Sequim West Inn faces formal charges today.

Shelby A. Schleve, 21, is being held in the Clallam County jail on $50,000 bail for investigation of first-degree robbery.

Sequim police allege that Schleve helped a second suspect rob a man of drugs and other items at the motel in the early morning hours of Jan. 29.

Schleve surrendered to law enforcement Tuesday.

The Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office will consider filing formal charges in Superior Court at 1 p.m. today.

Seeking man

Police on Thursday were still looking for the second suspect, a man described as about 5-foot-10 and between 210 and 240 pounds. He was wearing sunglasses and a bandanna at the time of the alleged robbery, Detective Sgt. Sean Madison said.

Sequim police said Schleve knew the alleged victim and knocked on his door at the hotel at about 3:45 a.m.

When he opened the door, the second suspect pointed a gun at his face and demanded his personal effects, according to the certification for probable cause.

Schleve and the unidentified man took about $2,000 in property and left the room, police said.

The alleged victim said the suspects took 0.5 grams of heroin, one-sixteenth ounce of meth, three pairs of Jordan shoes, a Jordan hat, two sweatshirts, a letterman’s jacket, jeans, a gold chain necklace, a backpack, cologne, needles, coins and a wallet containing food stamps and $120 in cash, court papers said.

A friend of the alleged victim provided a text message conversation that indicated Schleve was planning to steal from the alleged victim, police said.

Police found probable cause to arrest Schleve for investigation of first-degree robbery, second-degree theft and criminal conspiracy.

Anyone with information on the alleged armed robbery is asked to phone Sequim police at 360-683-7227.
