FORKS — Mayor Nedra Reed expects to find out today just why the city’s two radio stations were silenced with short notice after a Houston-base broadcast company finalized purchase of KVAC-AM 1490 and KLLM-FM 103.9.
Reed on Sunday expressed concerns that the city had been without emergency broadcast equipment when the new owners, First Broadcasting Investment Partners LLC, suddenly took the stations off the air Dec. 18. She said she did learn the stations could be put back on the air sometime in January after a consultant takes over.
“What we were most concerned about is the radio station provides our emergency communications notification,” said Reed.
She noted that, during recent Forks-area floods, the stations were used to make public service announcements to inform residents where they could report flood damage to property.
Reed said she would be contacting First Broadcasting representative Bob Hamilton today to find out details of the ownership transition.
Repeated attempts to contact Hamilton on Sunday were unsuccessful.
