PORT TOWNSEND — Beach cleanup volunteers will be rewarded with frosty brews during the second annual Beach Cleanup for Beer on Saturday.

Those who love beer and want to help the environment can join the Port Townsend Marine Science Center and the Pourhouse for the event, also supported by the Puget Soundkeeper Alliance and Washington CoastSavers, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Volunteers can register at the marine science center at a table in the parking lot outside of the Pourhouse, a craft beer taproom and pub at 2231 Washington St.

Each participant will be assigned a Port Townsend beach and be given materials to collect trash and data sheets to record what kind of trash is collected.

Those bringing back trash to the Pourhouse — and who have photo identification proving they are 21 or older — will receive one free beer each, compliments of Pourhouse owners Ned Herbert and Virginia Marston.

The data sheets will be included as part of the Ocean Conservancy’s annual International Coastal Cleanup Day.

“Engaging in your community by picking up trash leads to a cleaner, healthier marine environment for humans, wildlife and coastal economies,” said Amy Johnson, marine science center volunteer coordinator.

“We invite you to join us to make a difference and be a part of this fun event.”
