WEEKEND: Biologists to share tips on clam digging Saturday in Port Hadlock

PORT HADLOCK — Tips on digging for your dinner will be presented at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Biologists Camille Speck and Doug Rogers will give a hands-on presentation about harvesting clams at the North Lagoon Beach unit at Indian Island Park.

This public event is free, but a $5 donation per family will help support future marine education programs.

The WSU Jefferson County Beach Watchers and state Department of Fish and Wildlife are sponsoring the second “Diggin’ for Dinner” program.

Come prepared

Participants — who are asked to bring their shellfish licenses, buckets, boots and digging tools — can find out about where to find clams, how to harvest them safely and sustainably, and learn basic state rules and regulations.

Shellfish licenses can be purchased at https://fishhunt.dfw.wa.gov or at a local retail outlet.

Children 14 and younger do not need a license.

Pre-registration is necessary. To RSVP, email wsujeffersoncounty@gmail.com or phone 360-379-5610, ext. 200.
