CHIMACUM – The “stuffing man” and his daughter labored long on Wednesday to create one essential component of today’s free community Thanksgiving dinner.
The meal will be from noon to 3 p.m. at the Tri-Area Community Center, 10 W. Valley Road., in Chimacum.
Jim Schoessler of Port Hadlock and his daughter, Jaime Smith of Edmonds, are among the more than 60 volunteers who donate their time and talents to the public Thanksgiving meal.
Volunteers are so eager that the events’ sponsors, Olympic Community Action Programs – or OlyCAP – and the St. Vincent De Paul Society of St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Church, have had to turn some away because there’s only so much to do.
But Schoessler and Smith don’t have to worry about that. Their volunteer spots are secure, and have been the past six years.
“Everybody loves my dad, because he makes stuffing that tastes like when they were little kids,” Smith said.
On Wednesday, the father-daughter stuffing team was hard at work in the kitchen of the Tri-Area Community Center, preparing what has become a crowd favorite for those who dine at the Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners at the center.
