United Way to honor volunteers; $900,000 of $1.1 million raised so far

PORT ANGELES — The United Way of Clallam County has raised, so far, $900,000 of its fundraising goal of $1.1 million, and will honor the volunteers and donors who helped in the 2009 campaign during an awards dinner Thursday, Feb. 25.

The final fundraising figure won’t be announced until March 31, said Jody Moss, United Way executive director.

Contributions toward the campaign received before that date will be included in the final total.

During the annual dinner and presentations, the United Way will honor more than 100 volunteers and thousands of donors.

A social hour, with music by a Port Angeles High School quartet, will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Port Angeles CrabHouse Restaurant’s Juan de Fuca Room at the Red Lion Hotel, 221 N. Lincoln St., Port Angeles.

Dinner will follow at 6:30 p.m.

The dinner is open to campaign volunteers, donors, United Way Partner Agencies and their volunteers, and any others interested.

The cost is $23 per person. Reservations are necessary.

Funds raised during the campaign will provide financial support to agencies and individuals throughout 2010.

Together, 27 United Way partner agencies received $666,898 in 2009 from the 2008 campaign, while another $93,148 was designated by donors for non-partner agencies. They range from the Clallam County Humane Society to the Care Net Pregnancy Center to Volunteer Hospice.

United Way also sponsors several “community solution” programs, including the Clallam County Literacy Council, the Access to Health Care Coalition and the 2-1-1 Help Line.

To make reservations to the dinner, phone the United Way office at 360-457-3011 or e-mail to info@unitedwayclallam.org.
