PORT ANGELES — Travel to today’s memorial service for fallen U.S. Forest Service Officer Kristine Fairbanks at Civic Field will be difficult, and no parking will be available immediately around the field, but free shuttle service is available.
The 90-minute outdoor service at Civic Field, which is between Second and Fourth streets on Race Street in Port Angeles, will begin at 1 p.m., with entrance to the stadium available at 11 a.m.
“Parking is extremely limited in the Civic Field area, and we urge all attendees to use the shuttle service provided,” Olympic National Forest Supervisor Dale Hom said.
Handicap accessible parking will be available along Race Street.
Beginning at 11 a.m., no westbound travel will be allowed for at least an hour on U.S. Highway 101 from its intersection with Masters Way just west of Morse Creek.
The westbound lanes of the highway will be closed at that time for a procession of vehicles carrying the 2,000 to 3,000 law enforcement officers expected at the service and will move from the old Kmart parking lot at Masters Road and U.S. 101 to Civic Field.
The highway will be closed until the procession is finished.
