Tall ship schedules change

PORT ANGELES — Schedules have changed for tall ships’ arrival at City Pier this week.

The topsail ketch Hawaiian Chieftain, which was expected to arrive in Port Angeles from Sequim on Monday, instead will dock at City Pier on Tuesday, the Grays Harbor Historical Seaport Authority said Saturday.

It will offer dockside tours and public sailing during its five-day visit.

The vessel, which is the companion ship to the brig Lady Washington, the official ship of Washington state, will tie up at about 4 p.m.

The Hawaiian Chieftain will open for public walk-on tours from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

A $3 donation per person is appreciated.

The Lady Washington, which is undergoing routine annual maintenance at the Port Townsend Shipyard, is expected to sail to Port Angeles on Saturday, and join the Hawaiian Chieftain for a Battle Sail at 2 p.m. that day.

A Battle Sail recreates the action of an 18th-century naval engagement with booming cannons and close quarters maneuvers between the two vessels.

Both ships are expected to depart for their home port of Grays Harbor on Saturday evening.

Tickets for the Battle Sail are $60 for adults, $50 for students, seniors, and active military, and $40 for children under 12 years old.

All schedules are subject to change without notice.

Reservations are strongly recommended. To make reservations, or to confirm them before boarding, phone 800-200-5239 or visit www.historicalseaport.org.
