PORT TOWNSEND — The weather may have cooled down, but the music is heating up at Fort Worden State Park as the Northwest Big Band Workshop gets into full swing.
In all, 54 musicians from across the continental United States, Alaska and Canada are gathered at the state park for the weeklong workshop, now in its 11th year.
The musicians are divided into three bands that practice together all week, then play at a concert and dance at McCurdy Pavilion on Friday night.
“There’ll be music from the ’30s, ’40s and ’50s that mark the big band era,” Elmer Ramsey, music director, said.
“We’ll also include composers and arrangers from more recent years as well.”
