PORT ANGELES — The last seconds of Shawn Roe’s life played out in a harshly lighted video, a breath-bating vision of violence that, although viewed over and over, never seemed real.
The surveillance tape from a camera high outside the Longhouse Market & Deli was played Tuesday at a news conference.
It shows Roe leaving the store on Saturday night, looking to his right and seeing two Clallam County sheriff’s deputies.
Nearly imperceptibly in the grainy video, Roe’s right hand moves toward the left side of his waistband.
An instant later, he falls backward, dropping his package of whiskey and, deputies said, one of the three handguns he was found to have carried.
The scene is difficult to see.
A floodlit reflection bounces off the roof of a 7 Cedars Casino shuttle bus parked at the gas pumps.
Roe and the deputies move like shadows among shadows.
