Some Clallam, Jefferson partisan office-holders automatically re-elected

An extended candidate filing week for partisan offices without challengers finished Friday with no surprises — and some office-holders automatically given new terms of office.

Chief among them is state Rep. Lynn Kessler, the Hoquiam Democrat who received no challenger in the Republican Party or any third party.

Jefferson County’s slate of candidates for partisan and nonpartisan offices remained unchanged from a week ago.

Automatically gaining new four-year terms in Jefferson County, in which almost all county positions are partisan, are Assessor Jack Westerman, D-Port Townsend, Auditor Donna Eldridge, R-Port Townsend, Treasurer Judith Morris, R-Port Hadlock, and Clerk Ruth Gordon, D-Port Townsend.

In Clallam County, Mike Doherty will be headed for a third consecutive term on the Board of County Commissioners in the 3rd District (Port Angeles and West End) after receiving no opposing party challengers.

It will be Doherty’s fourth term overall as a commissioner — he served a single term in the late 1970s.

Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney Deborah Kelly, a Republican, also is automatically re-elected to a second four-year term after no opposing party candidates filed a challenge during last week’s extended period.

Ballots for the all-mail primary election ending Sept. 19 will be mailed to voters Aug. 30 and 31.

The general election, also all-mail, will end Nov. 7.
