Small brush fire on Four Corners Road stopped

Fire investigators believe a spark from a half-barrel fireplace ignited the blaze.

PORT HADLOCK — A small brush fire, estimated to be 15 feet by 20 feet, was extinguished by firefighters early Saturday morning.

East Jefferson Fire-Rescue was alerted to the brush fire in the 400 block of Four Corners Road at 7:50 a.m. Upon arrival, they immediately established a wet line around the fire to stop it from spreading.

The fire was declared out approximately 10 minutes later.

Neighbors told firefighters that a man had been burning Friday night in a homemade half-barrel fireplace, which was found within the burn area. Fire investigators believe a spark from that barrel ignited the brush fire.

A total burn ban was declared Thursday afternoon for all of Jefferson and Clallam counties. No yard debris fires, campfires or recreational fires of any type are allowed.

Illegal burns are punishable by a fine of up to $14,915.
