SALEM, Ore. — Funeral services for a Peninsula College soccer player killed last weekend while snowboarding in the Cascades will be held Saturday in his hometown of Salem.
A memorial is also planned at the Port Angeles campus where he starred as a soccer forward.
Services for Jared Nagel, 20, will be held at 2 p.m. at Salem Evangelical Church, 455 Locust St. N.E., Salem, and viewing will be at Howell-Edwards-Doerksen Mortuary, 1350 Commercial St. S.E., also in Salem, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, family friend Rhonda Stillinger said Monday.
Nagel, a sophomore at Peninsula College who was due to graduate in the spring, was killed while snowboarding at Stevens Pass in the mountains 65 miles east of Everett on Saturday.
The King County Medical Examiner’s Office determined Monday that his death was accidental.
Nagel was snowboarding off of a jump called the “Waterfall” about 4 p.m. on Saturday.
He fell, got up, moved to the side and then collapsed, according to a statement from the King County Sheriff’s Department.
