SEQUIM – Ears on the East End may have a new noncommercial radio station to listen to by next summer.
Three Sequim men have applied for a license to broadcast local news, nostalgic music – and whatever else the volunteers cook up – at 91.1 FM.
They’re Johan Van Nimwegen and Rick Perry, veteran broadcasters who’ve worked for radio stations across the West, and Keith Burfitt, a Sequim general contractor.
Their vision, as the board of Sequim Community Broadcasting Inc., is of an independent radio station that homes in on its local communities: Port Angeles, Sequim and the Dungeness Valley.
“We want to give people what they want,” said Perry, who’s amassing a collection of music from the 1930s through the early ’60s to appeal to Clallam County’s more mature listeners.
