Sequim man pleads not guilty in home burglary

PORT ANGELES — A 20-year-old Sequim man accused of breaking into a Sequim home and stealing $679 in cash, bank checks and $715 worth of prescription medication last summer pleaded not guilty to residential burglary Friday.

Dominic A. Megrant faces a March 19 trial on the Class B felony in Clallam County Superior Court.

Megrant was arrested Nov. 28 after the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office tied him to the July 19 burglary at a Sunset Place residence.

A sheriff’s investigator noticed that the kitchen window screen had been turned backward and the window had smudges on the outer pane consistent with someone using a palm to slide it open, court papers said.

A State Patrol forensic scientist determined that the prints belonged to Megrant.

Megrant was summoned to Superior Court on Dec. 30.

Defense attorney Harry Gasnick advised that his client had been in custody for 17 days on the same charge in District Court.

Megrant was released on his own recognizance. He was not in custody when he appeared at his Friday arraignment.

A pretrial hearing is set for Feb. 16.
