SEQUIM — For the second consecutive year, Gov. Gary Locke’s budget ax is poised to lop off funding for a fish hatchery in Clallam County.
Last year, the governor proposed cutting funding for Sol Duc Fish Hatchery on Pavel Road near Sappho.
This year, Locke has the budget ax ready to fall on Hurd Creek Hatchery, 911 Fasola Road.
The proposed closure of the hatchery was recommended in the governor’s bienniel budget unveiled Tuesday in Olympia.
The Legislature will have the final say on the budget during its next session, which begins in January.
