Sequim firefighters stop garage fire

SEQUIM — Clallam County District 3 firefighters quickly extinguished a garage fire north of Sequim.

Fire Chief Ben Andrews said the fire in a garage on the 100 block of Elizabeth Lane off Old Olympic Highway was extinguished within seven minutes on Friday afternoon.

No one was injured.

The cause of the blaze remained under investigation Friday.

Firefighters arrived at the fire at 3:54 p.m. to find it contained to a room inside the garage, which was filled with black smoke. The rest of the home was undamaged except for some smoke from the garage.

The house is rented to a mother and her three sons. The damaged room belongs to a teenage son.

The renter said a neighbor knocked on the front door to let the family know about the fire in the garage.

The renter does not have renter’s insurance.

One fire engine, one tender, two medic units and 15 first responders arrived at the fire.
