SEQUIM — A schoolteacher fired earlier this month for inappropriate behavior with students has appealed his termination, Sequim School District Superintendent Garn Christensen confirmed.
Dave Cross, who taught choir at Sequim Middle School and led an elite chorale at Sequim High School, on Monday served the district with formal notice to appeal its decision to end his 18-year employment.
Cross could not be reached Tuesday for comment.
The firing followed a six-week investigation into what the district characterized as inappropriate relationships conducted through e-mails and in person with current and former female students.
The district also alleged that Cross mishandled funds and engaged in dishonest fund-raising tactics to support various trips for the Ambassador Choir, including one planned for June to Normandy, France.
An appeal before a state hearings officer would likely take several months, Christensen said.
