SEQUIM — It’s been a long time in coming, but construction of a highly anticipated amphitheater and bandshell at Carrie Blake Park might begin as early as next month.
The performance venue, dreamed up by organizers of the Sequim City Band and helped along with support from the city of Sequim, has been meticulously planned by band leader Patsy Mattingley and craftily designed by Sequim architect Ken Hays.
Even better, much of it is already paid for.
“Thanks to an anonymous donor, we’re ready to go ahead with at least most of the project,” Mattingley said Tuesday in a presentation to members of the Sequim-Dungeness Chamber of Commerce during a noon luncheon at John Wayne Marina.
Mattingley won’t budge on disclosing the donor’s identity, but isn’t shy about sharing her goals for the project.
Mattingley said the band — a nonprofit organization — will be applying for a building permit this week.
