PORT ANGELES – Citizens whose homes or businesses use septic systems could be assessed $10 to $12 a year to support a septic education/inspection program in Clallam County.
The fees are among the recommendations the On Site Septic Work Group will present at a meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the commissioners’ hearing room (160) of the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.
The OSS group – residents, health officials, septic installers and inspectors – has worked since October to draft septic system regulations mandated by the state Department of Health for Washington’s 12 marine counties.
A final plan is due in Olympia by July.
Current regulations require gravity septic systems to be inspected every three years, yearly for pump-driven systems.
Professional inspectors typically charge about $160 for their services.
