PORT ANGELES — After pleading guilty to two counts of first-degree child molestation, Dennis W. Schaefer, 39, of Port Angeles, is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 8 in Clallam County Superior Court.
Port Angeles police said a parent reported in June 2008 that his daughter, who was 11 at the time, had been sexually assaulted by a relative between 2002 and 2005.
The child was interviewed last September by Port Angeles police.
Schaefer was arrested on an unrelated warrant on Nov. 14, 2009, and then charged two days later with 16 counts of first-degree child molestation and 16 counts of incest.
He pleaded not guilty Nov. 20.
Schaefer accepted a plea offer May 14 and pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree child molestation June 2, court records show.
He faces a standard sentence of eight to 11 years in prison on each count.
Maximum punishment for child molestation is life imprisonment and a $50,000 fund.
Schaefer is being held at the Clallam County jail on $150,000 bail.
