School closure hearings tonight in Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles School District will host two school closure hearings this evening and two more next week.

The School Board has proposed closing Fairview Elementary School, merging Roosevelt and Stevens Middle schools on the Stevens campus and returning all elementary schools to a kindergarten through sixth-grade format.

School officials are inviting feedback from the public on the issue, according to a statement form the district.

Tonight at the Stevens Middle School library, a hearing on the Fairview closure will be held at 6 p.m.

A hearing on the Roosevelt closure will be held at 7 p.m.

On Oct. 17 at the Roosevelt Middle School library, another hearing on the Fairview closure will be held at 6 p.m.

A hearing on the Roosevelt closure will be held at 7 p.m.

A special meeting of the School Board will be held Oct. 16 at the Central Services building at 7 p.m. to review the 2006-07 Continuous School Improvement Plans. No action is anticipated.
