Rockin’ good time promised at Jefferson County Fair

PORT TOWNSEND — The 71st Jefferson County Fair begins today (Friday), and fair organizers expect it to be a “rockin’ good time.”

This year’s theme, “Barn to be Wild,” will be on prominent display throughout the Jefferson County Fairgrounds at 4907 Landes St., in Port Townsend.

The fairgrounds will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. today and Saturday, and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.

Plenty of poodle skirts and pop cultural icons from the 1950s and ’60s will decorate the fairgrounds.

Fair attendees can test their knowledge of the era by answering questions on game cards provided by the fair’s information booth.

Answers to the questions can be found throughout the fairgrounds.

Sue McIntire, fair office manager, said everyone who returns completed cards will receive a “rock n’ roll duck,” which is a rubber duck dressed in rocking attire.

Rock n’ roll performers impersonating Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis and Ritchie Valens will hit the fair’s main stage at 1 p.m. Saturday.

“It will be a rockin’ good time at a rockin’ good fair,” McIntire said.
