U.S. Rep. Norm Dicks returned from a whirlwind two-day trip to Iraq and says he’s convinced the United States must “stay the course” in rebuilding the war-torn country.
“We have to stay with this now. We have to show the Iraqis we are serious,” Dicks, D-Bremerton, said in a telephone interview.
A 17-member congressional delegation, including Dicks, toured Iraq on Saturday and Sunday.
The congressmen were getting a firsthand look at what is needed to rebuild Iraq before they vote on President Bush’s $87 billion funding request.
“It was a great trip. We came back believing we have to stay the course and get the job done,” Dicks said.
