SEQUIM — The city’s new band shell in Carrie Blake Park will be available to rent under a tiered fee structure depending on the type of group wanting to use the outdoor stage and the use to which it’s being put.
City Council members adopted the fee structure Wednesday.
The issue surfaced in mid-January when Lavender Festival organizers asked if it was possible to block off an area around the new band shell and sell tickets to a fund-raising show.
The Sequim City Band raised the money for the performance venue, and city policy reflects that the band has first priority and does not have to pay rent.
The rules for other users are:
* Any activity sponsored or co-sponsored by the city of Sequim — such as school and community-related activities like Boy Scouts or Babe Ruth leagues — will require rent of $50 for up to four hours and $75 for four hours or more.
* Nonprofit groups organizing an event that does not charge admission can use the shell for $150 for up to four hours and $250 for more than four hours.
* Political, religious or commercial uses, any event that charges admission and private parties would be charged a rental fee of $300 for up to four hours or $500 for more than four hours.
All users would have to put up a $200 deposit.
