LAPUSH — Generations will merge this week as the Quileute tribe honors its elders.
The theme of the week is “Reflections of Our Past for Our Youth’s Future.”
Different tribal departments have selected a specific day to host a variety of cultural events at the A-Ka-Lat Center on Bay-Yak Way.
Kicking off the five-day event will be the LaPush Police Department with a drug awareness program from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Afterward, the Quileute Head Start students will honor the tribal council and elders with a paddle song, and then gather around for a half-hour of story telling.
The students will end the day by playing a game of bingo with the elders.
Then on Tuesday, “Community Culture Day,” elders and students from the Quileute Tribal School will get a chance to make drums and share in a bit of singing and dancing.
The all-day event begins at 10 a.m. The first 20 people will get to participate in the drum making.
For others, there will also be carving, weaving and beading projects.
