Quilcene Food Bank to host concert fundraiser

Event kicks off drive for moving fund

QUILCENE —The Quilcene Food Bank is hosting a benefit concert on Aug. 25 to raise money for a new facility.

This concert will be the start of a fundraising campaign for a new location for the growing base of users.

Local bluegrass group Rhythm Ride will perform at 4 p.m. at the Community Methodist Church at 130 Church Lane.

The suggested donation for the concert is $10 per person. Proceeds will go to the moving fund for the food bank.

The Quilcene Food Bank serves 1,000 people a month at the Community Center in Quilcene and that number continues to grow, according to a press release from the food bank.

The issue with the current facility is the “Quilcene Community Center serves a number of other community activities and as a result the the space that is available for the Quilcene Food Bank is severely limited, and not suited to food storage or distribution,” said the press release.

The limited space prevents the food bank from expanding, so a new site is needed, according to the press release.

The Quilcene Food Bank is part of the Jefferson County Food Bank Association, which includes Brinnon, Tri-Area and the Port Townsend food banks as well, and is the only association in Washington that oversees all food banks in their county, according to the food bank’s website at http://jefferson countyfoodbanks.org/ quilcene.html.

The association also assists the Hoh and Queet Reservation food banks in serving their local communities, according to QFB’s website.

Donations to the moving fund can be made to Quilcene Food Bank, P.O. Box 112, Quilcene, WA 98376. The memo section of the check should read “Quilcene Building.”

The Quilcene Food Bank is open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Wednesday. The phone number is 360-765-0904.
